Cross paws is the trick we've been working on for the Trick of the Month club over on Dog Forums! He's got it down, and the cue has been transferred from a hand signal to me crossing my feet. I'm so excited for next month's tricks. Until then, we'll work on crossing the other way... and...

Picking Dandelions! Wish me luck!

  1. Welcome to blogging! I didn't realize we had the same name. :D

I am so impressed with the cross paws trick. I should try to teach it to Marge after we finish up on the retrieving. Which, now that I think about it, is kind of like the Picking Dandies you want Jake to do.. I have some info in one of my recent posts about it. I used the "shaping" process, which I think could benefit you, too.

Looking forward to reading about your endeavors with Jake and Buck.. :)

  2. Thanks! I'm going to try and stick with this blogging thing, it's fun so far.

I'll have to go check out the information in your post. He'll lip and nibble at the dandelions now, and occasionally he'll pluck one. I always seem to miss the click when he does that though.

Cross Paws was fun, but I discovered that I could have saved a lot of trouble to start with by having him target my foot from the start instead of trying to wean him from a hand signal to all of a sudden looking at my feet. Oh well, now that I know I'll use that method to teach the other direction!

    Good luck with Marge's retrieving!
